Christmas was a very special time for us, Marc's parents came over from the Netherlands and we celebrated with Julie's parents in Maryland. During our visit to the US, we went to New York City (New Amsterdam) for a few days to do some site-seeing and to visit friends.  Unknown to Julie, Marc had big plans in mind for this trip!

On  December 28^thwe met up with Jill and Jason Fifield. Julie had shared an apartment with Jill and Joann Kehn on 108^th Street on the West side of Manhattan.  After visiting the old neighborhood and reminiscing, we went for dinner at a diner and exchanged stories of how we became couples and heard about Jason's proposal to Jill. He joked about the engagement ring 'burning a hole in his pocket'  and Marc thought "I know the feeling" since he had an engagement ring burning a hole in his pocket at that moment!

 

Following dinner Marc suggested we go, with the two of us, to the Empire State Building to see the city by night. We took the subway to 34th Street and walked hand in (sweaty) hand towards our romantic destination...and then found an enormous line with a two hour wait to go to the observation deck. On to plan B...
